Outreach & Advocacy

At CORE, we understand that access to critical resources is shaped by our community and its governance. We partner with the Sisters community through engagement and community involvement to remove the social and systemic barriers our neighbors face.

Working-together

Community Engagement

CORE engages with local officials, like-minded nonprofits, and social services to bring about solutions to housing and food insecurity. CORE’s relationship with the City of Sisters has informed policy decisions, most notably, allowing CORE to equip Sisters with an emergency shelter.

CORE works with organizations such as Deschutes County Behavioral Health and Sisters Community Leadership Initiative to ensure our patrons have access to all the essential resources available to them.

Volunteer Opportunities

CORE relies on our diverse network of volunteers to fulfill our mission. Our food bank, laundry, shower, supplies, community day room, and forest operations are all led by unpaid volunteers, most of which are residents of Sisters.

At CORE, our volunteers also serve as advocates for our patrons, whether through posting on social media, speaking at town halls, or attending additional trainings to increase their advocacy skills

Donations

CORE relies on monthly and annual donors to fund daily operations and expansion of services. Whether monetary, supplies, clothing, or food, your donations are essential to CORE’s investment in our neighbors’ brighter futures.

How You Can Help: Take Action

Donate

CORE relies on our generous donors to operate and expand services. We accept monetary donations through PayPal or by checks. Checks may be addressed to Sisters Cold Weather Shelter and sent to PO Box 1782, Sisters, OR 97759.

Clothing, supplies, and food bank donations may be dropped off at 222 Trinity Way in Sisters. All clothing and supplies must be in good or new condition. Please refer to our Facebook for current donation needs or contact us via our form or additional questions.

Volunteer

CORE is powered by a strong volunteer network of community members, bringing life to our mission. We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities to fit many schedules and interests.

After looking at our services page, let us know why you’d like to volunteer and which opportunities you are interested in!

Advocate

Anyone can participate in advocacy work for those experiencing houselessness, regardless of volunteer or donor status. Here are some ways you can become an advocate:

Embrace folks experiencing hardship in the community

  • Say hello and introduce yourself. Learn more about the people you pass by regularly.

  • Remember that unhoused people are more likely to be the victims of crime than the perpetrators. Stand up for your neighbors if you witness mistreatment.

  • If you witness someone experiencing hardship or crisis, feel free to refer them to us via our contact form
